Satellites only provide low-resolution images, resulting in mediocre species identification and statistics-based metrics. Satellites are pretty much applicable to grown trees and cannot detect plants or younger/smaller trees.
 
Drones are superior for detailed analysis on a local level, whereas satellites give superior coverage for macro-perspective analysis on a regional or country level.

LiDAR scanning can be used for grown trees measuring trunk height, trunk density and volume calculation. Species identification is mediocre due to a lack of detail, colour and contrast reproduction. Aeroplanes or helicopters carrying LIDAR have great coverage but are extremely expensive and complex to plan and deploy compared to drones. LIDAR is mostly applicable on grown trees and cannot detect plants or younger/smaller trees.
